Meet Doctor Matthew Powell DMD, he has dedicated his life to putting a smile on your face one way or another with a combination of dental clinical expertise, a friendly, respectful, and compassionate demeanor, positive attitude, and from time to time, amateur comedy.
Matthew obtained his Bachelors of Science in Biology with Chemistry Minor from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, graduating with honors from Beta Beta Beta Biology Honor Society, as the Vice President of his chapter of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity, and spent time as part of the effort to save the North American Chestnut Tree from chestnut blight brought to America in the early 1900's as a research assistant.
After taking a gap year to travel, he attended and graduated from the University of New England College of Dental Medicine of 2021 in Portland, Maine, Dr. Powell from time to time educates as an off-site adjunct professor training D4 or senior year equivalent dental students on their clinical externship rotations, in addition he is a founding member of the UNE chapter and active international alumni of the Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity.
Dr. Powell started his career in dentistry as a Managing Clinical Director at Aspen Dental in Southern Maine. He continued to practice dentistry as a travel dentist picking up valuable pediatric dentistry skills at St. Apollonia in Aroostook County among other offices, afterwards moving to Public Health with Nasson Healthcenter. After entering into private practice, he has found his new home here with us at Breakwater Dental. He also works occasional weekends on his own time providing dental services for both active duty and veteran soldiers for readiness events and compensation and pension exams, in addition to managing mobile dental units for rural dental outreach.
Although you would not think he has any, in his spare time, Matthew enjoys the outdoors, skiing, camping and hiking, and white water rafting. If you do not see him on the trails, you can occasionally find him downtown working on his comedy set, arts and crafts such as paintings, and playing pinball.
Dr. Powell is especially skilled at surgical and prosthetic dentistry offering services in Implants and Implant Restorations, Traditional Crowns, Clear Aligners, Partial Dentures, and emergency and scheduled Extractions. Dr. Powell is always working on expanding his skill sets and regularly attends Continuing Education events at several study clubs in Southern Maine and is currently working on obtaining his MAGD or Master of Advanced General Dentistry Certificate to better serve our patients and looks forward to helping you and your family and friends soon.
